Sheer Chai - Kashmiri Salt Tea

What makes this type of tea unique is the fact that salt is used  instead of sugar. It is very helpful in digestion. The tea leaves are different and are available at all kashmiri departmental stores, INA market, Delhi and in Jammu and Kashmir.

  1. 1/4 tea spoon tea leaves.
  2. 1 pinch meetha soda (sodium bicarbonate).
  3. Salt to taste.
  4. 1 table spoon malai (fresh cream).
  5. 1 elaichi (cardamom).
  6. 3g crushed fresh adrak (ginger).
  7. 1 steel patila.


  1. Put tea leaves and meetha soda in a steel patila and add two cups of water.
  2. Keep it on a low flame for 20-25 minutes till the colour is blakish red.
  3. Add 1/2 cup water, 1/2 cup milk, ginger, salt and crushed cardamom.
  4. Boil it on a medium flame.
  5. Pour in a cup, add cream and enjoy the taste and heavenly freshness.
